I have the same problem, using this Transcend card reader and a Samsung 8GB SD card when it is connected to the USB3 port of a Lenovo X220, running quantal, and when conencted to a Gigabyte Z77D3H running oneiric.
WHen the device is connected to USB2 port, everything is fine.
