Ok, so I uninstalled nvidia-current and virtual box and installed the
mainline.

Version:

unseen@shodan-mobile:~$ uname -r
3.7.0-030700rc1-generic

With the mainline shutdown seemed to work ok.

I then uninstalled the mainline and reinstalled the ubuntu default
kernel (without nvidia-current):

Current Version:

unseen@shodan-mobile:~$ uname -r
3.5.0-17-generic

With this, the shutdown worked as well.

I then reinstalled the nvidia-current driver, and shutdown was
immidiatly broken again.
