This was partly fixed in the 0.7 release of unity-scope-gdocs, which
opens the Google Doc for editing (rather than for export/downloading,
which was the previous behaviour) in a web browser. See bug 1041749 for
more details.

It would be possible to have a preview action to open in GWOffice, or
change the default action to do so, but it is not something that I have
time to work on at the moment.
