I've been diligently trying to get the system to boot with the mainline kernels as I notice updates in the repository, but the result is the same, the kernel hangs on boot.
I did some more digging, and it looks like it's hanging around the point that ata stuff initializes. (I've attached a screenshot showing where it locks up.) It also appears that the kernel is still responding, as the screen shows the keyboard being unplugged and plugged back in, and it looks like the monitor went to sleep after some time. ** Attachment added: "picture of stuck boot screen." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1063474/+attachment/3407475/+files/IMG_20121021_091512.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063474 Title: System fails to connect to iHOS-104 DVD drive with nvidia MCP61 chipset.
