Update : This seemed to occur under wifi load. Streaming youtube HD or running a repeated speedtest such as http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
After which all connections were dropped even though network manager still showed connected via wifi. Could not connect to local router ip address. Needs to be rebooted.
