It's the nvidia driver from the nvidia homepage and I had no problems
with it.

I removed the driver (again), switched to nv and rebooted -> "Your
hardware doesen't need any restricted drivers".

grep 0391 
/usr/share/linux-restricted-modules/2.6.20-16-generic/modules.alias.override/nvidia
alias pci:v000010DEd00000391sv*sd*bc03sc*i* nvidia

I can't hide the feeling, that a new ubuntu installation will fix the
whole thing...
