So you had important error messages displayed. :-) dpkg's --set-selections behaviour has changed and prior to the --set-selections call, you should make sure that dpkg knows about all the available packages. You can use "dselect update" (of dselect) or "sync-available" (of dctrl-tools) or directly "apt-cache dumpavail | sudo dpkg --update-avail" to do this.
