Please, before changing the status to fix-released, since this bug was first reported for feisty that is still the official stable kubuntu, can you make an updated package available for feisty? Understand that kate, as a kde application, has tons of build dependencies, so for most it is not really an option to get the kate-3.5.7 source package, patch it, and rebuild it.
Just in case the feisty updated package is not released, let me offer a couple of workarounds for those who might have installed kde-3.5.7 and now have a crashing kate: Workaround #1: - apparently you can install kate-3.5.6 alongside with kde-3.5.7 so downgrading just kate to 3.5.6 will give you back a working kate. The funny thing is that this working kate will pretend to be part of kde 3.5.7. Workaround #2: - with the above, if you keep the kde-3.5.7 repo in the apt sources.list (to get updates if any) you will get the adept notifier always on, telling you that there are updated packages available.
