No, that's what I was trying to say: If I enable Metacity instead of Beryl, then gdesklets works just fine.
I haven't tried to see if the behavior of gdesklets is similar with Compiz (I tried Compiz once, and it did a very good job at screwing up my xorg.conf, so I prefer not to try and use it again). Also, I have noticed that a couple of desklets (e.g., the gnome bar and one related to xmms) tend to be very unstable while Beryl is active.
