Public bug reported:

This system was updated yesterday, Friday, Sept. 21, 2012. Upon
attempting to boot this morning, the boot process failed, with repeated
messages that a process had failed for 23 seconds in Processor 2. The
only way to recover was to remove AC power and the battery (it's a
laptop). Restart in recovery mode was successful. Ubuntu 12.04 was
installed August 3 or 4; this is the first time the boot process has had
difficulty or failed for me for 12.04.
