I searched for this error message through xorg, xorg-server, xrandr, libxrandr but didn't spot it. I didn't find anything useful at bugs.freedesktop.org before entering the above report. I found instances of the message via google, but nothing that seems immediately applicable here. This message appears to pop up with incompatibilities between xrandr and various things.
