Not sure if my issue has the same root cause but it looks likely. Here's what update-manager gives me when I launch it:
Failed to load the package list This is a serious problem. Try again later. If this problem appears again, please report an error to the developers. E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ie.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise- backports_multiverse_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. I can't run Software Center either. When the automatic crash handler attempts to report the problem, I get another error: Could not determine the package or source name Running "ubuntu-bug update-manager" gives the same message in a gtk dialog and returns to the cli with message: (apport-gtk:3324): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_main_quit: assertion `main_loops != NULL' failed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043670 Title: update manager not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1043670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
