I had the same problem, and found out that the trouble was in google provider. I had google provider version 0.13 and manualy upgraded it to newer 0.16 version and it worked - google calendar is now showing in thuderbird and syncing. Just for the record - be sure to put private xml address form google to the field location in thunderbird. Hope this helps.
