I had the same issue (no sound, or only a couple of seconds of crackly
sound after killing pulseaudio) and was able to fix it with Wine 1.4.1
installed by running:

$ export WINEPREFIX=~/.limbo/limbo
$ winecfg

Then under the "Audio" tab, manually selecting and output device instead
of leaving it at "(System default)". For instance, for my sound card I
selected "HDA Intel - ALC663 Analog".

Limbo now runs fine with sound when run using the installed shortcut.
