So checking back in to this issue... Installed 6.06.1 on a MSI 7125 system (64bit Nforce4 board) onto 4 port Areca 1210 PCIe array.
Both 32 and 64bit flavors installed on array results in the same behvaior as above. Installed onto a 40Gb IDE disk with Areca removed entirely and no errors with either 32 or 64bit versions.
