It should have been fixed, at least on some cases.

The latest fglrx driver still hangs my Debian lenny system. However, it
works fine under Ubuntu 7.04. To solve this hang after logout issue, I
removed fglrx shipped with Ubuntu, downloaded fglrx 8.37.6 from ATI,
generated Ubuntu packages with it, installed and it worked.

I have a Compaq Presario V2424NR with the same XPRESS 200M 5955 card.
Had dozes of severe issues with this card + ATI drivers under Debian,
but it surprising works fine now on Ubuntu.
