The problem described in Bug #85488 is due to a change in the USB driver in the kernel, and that's what the scanbuttonsd fix is about (it keeps the USB port from sleeping on the job). HOWEVER this effect was not noticed in Edgy or Dapper, so if you're having the grinding noise in those releases it's not the same bug. I believe there's been progress on the USB problem so I suspect it will be corrected in time for Gutsy 7.10.
I haven't (yet?) experienced grinding noises on my Canon LiDE scanner. You could check to be sure the "lock" switch on the scanner hasn't been flipped by mistake, but I'm assuming your scanner works on other OS versions which would rule that out. -- My scanner, a Canon CanoScan LIDE 20, makes grinding noise https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/40682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
