** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20 Hi, Just today I bought a new (serial-ata) dvd burner. I just shut down my ubuntu 7.04 built in the drive and started up again. So far everything worked well. It was detected by Linux and I burned the first DVD (using GnomeBaker) which successfully finished and can be read on other pc´s (tried on my laptop). - After that i tried to install a game with it which was unexpected hard to do. After inserting the _CD_ (burned) in my drive it was detected as "blank medium" and i was suggested to burn the disk. + After that i tried to install a game with it which was unexpected hard to do. After inserting the DVD (burned) in my drive it was detected as "blank medium" and i was suggested to burn the disk. - The problem is not about the drive, its about reading burned cd´s / dvd´s. Ubuntu just seems not to detect wether the disc is empty or written (and expects its empty). + The problem is not about the drive, its about reading burned dvd´s (cds work). Ubuntu just seems not to detect wether the disc is empty or written (and expects its empty). Original CD´s and DVD´s work fine! When mounting manual following happens: > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/$ mount /media/dvd > mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only > mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0, > ... (text is known or not? ;-) ) > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/$ dmesg | tail > ... (wlan warnings on mass, has nothing to do with the problem) > [ 1897.532208] cdrom: sr0: mrw address space DMA selected > [ 1897.580295] cdrom: sr0: mrw address space DMA selected > [ 1897.786464] UDF-fs: No VRS found -EDIT- After installing "udftools" it seems to try accessing more "header positions" but fails just like before: > [ 4334.293186] cdrom: sr0: mrw address space DMA selected > [ 4334.319792] cdrom: sr0: mrw address space DMA selected > [ 4334.330792] attempt to access beyond end of device > [ 4334.330796] sr0: rw=0, want=68, limit=4 > [ 4334.334356] attempt to access beyond end of device > [ 4334.334360] sr0: rw=0, want=1252, limit=4 > [ 4334.334464] attempt to access beyond end of device > [ 4334.334466] sr0: rw=0, want=1028, limit=4 > [ 4334.334559] UDF-fs: No partition found (1) Obviously the udf-fs (which is tried first) is wrong, so i tried using iso9660. If i insert a (written) cd-r mounting with iso works fine. When inserting a dvd-r instead i´m getting these errors: > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/$ mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr0 /media/dvd > mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only > ... (as used) > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/$ dmesg | tail > ... If its a bug, please give some priority to this, all my backups are stored on dvd´s and i cant access them.
