Public bug reported: I'm using NFSv4 and FAI to install Ubuntu LTS. Currently I'm on 10.04 with the linux-lts-backport-oneiric kernel.
A week ago I have started to base a new release of our LiMux distribution (http://www.muenchen.de/Rathaus/dir/limux/english/index.html) on 12.04 and got NFSv4 access errors after mounting the NFSroot from the FAI installation. This is the last error from the NFSroot initramfs, before the kernels "can't find init' panic: run-init: /sbin/init: Not a directory The origin of this error is commit 1788ea6e in the kernel git repository: nfs: when attempting to open a directory, fall back on normal lookup (try #5) It was fixed in v3.5-rc1 by commit 0ef97dcf nfs: don't open in ->d_revalidate I was able to fix this error by either porting 0ef97dcf + 16b1c1cd + 5ede7b1c to the precise kernel, or reverting 1788ea6e. I would like to get the fix included into the Ubuntu kernel, so I don't have to rebuild the kernel for every security update.
