Regarding the possibility of a duplicate of bug 966744, I don't think so but I could be wrong.
I have one laptop (the Toshiba Tecra A9 from the original report) that has the problem mentioned here: namely that every time it hangs it gives me the "Resume failure" message. I have not had any hangs with either a "fully blank screen" or the screen before the suspend (both with a moving cursor) mentioned on the bug report to 966744. Unfortunately I am traveling and won't be back to this laptop for further testing for a few months. I do have another laptop (a Toshiba Tecra M10) that does "randomly and infrequently" display the issues listed in 966744 (I have this laptop currently with me), but this laptop has NEVER had the "Resume Failure" message as described in this bug report.
