Christopher, I've been monitoring the sensors, and they all appear normal. Right up to the point where the laptop shuts down. And I have run it on up-to-date kernels. The irony is that it FAILS on Ubuntu 11.10 or later, and NEVER on Ubuntu 11.04 or earlier.
I will grab whatever the latest upstream kernel for Oneiric is today, and try it.
