1. The gcc bug is now fixed: http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=53599 
(but probably not yet in Quantal)
2. @Ben: 12.04 has been released already and is unlikely to get a new upstream 
release. You would have to use a PPA or something similar. Kubuntu might 
provide the update via its PPAs anyway.

That being said, I am just in the process of grabbing the source from
Rohan's PPA (where the build logs are referring to) and will upload it
to my PPA, effectively backporting it for Ubuntu Precise (it might show
up here then: https://launchpad.net/~blueyed/+archive/ppa).
