Public bug reported: Amarok produces no sound when I try to play something. It's using the xine backend. The Phonon control panel plays test sounds ok. All other apps - Rhythmbox, mplayer, Chrome, etc. - play sound just fine.
I tried using pavucontrol; Amarok doesn't even appear in the list of applications under "Playback".
