Gary, I solved my zramswap problem. I did not want to move my machine, so I did do a manual un-install. I went under root, did a search and moved the parts of the package to the trash. I then was able to finish the update on zramswap even though it was in the trash. Ubuntu software center would not remove the program, so I rebooted and then used synpatic package manager to complete remove the package and remove the packages from the computer. I then emptied the program from the trash. After that I did and auto clean, auto update, and conf a in the terminal, all worked fine. I also downloaded and installed another program with Ubuntu software center and finished the weekly updates to make sure everything worked. All is fine.
I have stayed away from the major distros like Ubuntu, Fedora, Slackware and Gentoo as new to Linux and a bit worried about being able to configure them, but just found out the learning curve is the same. I appreciated your support and plan to give Ubuntu a try because of it. You don't have to warn me about root. I have read all the warnings. I am a bit of a risk taker with my computer. I knew a mistake would mean re- installing the program, but I also know that is how one learns. I fix most of my family and friends computers with windows, because I have screwed up and repaired mine so many times. I am more than willing to go into the registry and manual edit it. If that gives you an idea. Again, thanks, and I will be downloading and trying Ubuntu. Since you are using a derivative of Ubuntu and by your description of the issue, it would likely be difficult for us to resolve your problem but I would like to help if I can. In a terminal, please type: $ apt-cache policy zramswap-enabler And paste the output of the command to this bug report. Then, please try: $ sudo apt-get remove zramswap-enabler And again, paste the output here. Good luck! And thanks again for your report. ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011241 Title: zramswap-enabler failed to update arch hive not found, now cannot update anything, package manager broken Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I am using Zorin 5.2 core, an Ubuntu Derivative. Zramswap-eanbler tried to update and froze my update. I tried to un-install the program with Ubuntu update center but cannot. I tried in the terminal but cannot as the "arch hive is missing" The Synaptic program manager crashes when I try to do anything. I was able to find the website for zramswap-enabler but have an error that a newer version is installed so can not re-install the newer version. I am very new to Linux and not sure what to do now, other than re-install my OS, which I really hate to do. I was able to get the program with sudo apt-get but sudo install freezes.
