I got cups back up by reinstalling the default cupsd.conf and reinstalling cups. I had been tempering the conf in search of a solution for an authentication problem (NT_INVALID_PARAMETER message) that prevents me to print to a windows-printer on a server that i can access without any difficulty with Nautilus... Somehow Cups didn't like the changes i made into cupsd.conf. My print problem is still unresolved though...
