I gave up on centrino and bought an atheros PCI express module. SparkLAN 11abgn Atheros AR9382 half size minicard (WPEA-121N)
$35 bucks or so. This module is 2x2MIMO dual band, equivalent to centrino 6200 (methinks), not 3x3. Worked out of the box in ubuntu 12.04. 2028 packets transmitted, 2023 received, 0% packet loss, time 2050218ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 8.783/11.040/186.043/6.525 ms xbmc@htpc:~$ iwconfig wlan2 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"" Mode:Managed Frequency:5.18 GHz Access Point: Bit Rate=300 Mb/s Tx-Power=17 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off Link Quality=55/70 Signal level=-55 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:3 Invalid misc:8 Missed beacon:0 Better reception, better Tx power, higher speed (all under the exact same conditions), zero packet loss after thousands of pings, negligible number of Tx retries. Now I am wondering why I bought (and paid more) for intel centrino 6300 in the first place. Atheros seems way better, costs less, and the open source driver has a pretty good reputation (I remember using a very solid madwifi driver a very very long time ago). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/836250 Title: [Oneiric] [Regression] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/836250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
