Ok, tested in 3.2 and 3.4. It reconnects at resume from Suspend after 10-12 seconds. It took so long that's why I thought it was hit and miss. I messed with some packages before so I can't be 100% sure it works because of what I did or not. So I'm going to do a fresh install of Quantal Alpha 1 and report back if it also works in that case. That should be conclusive.
As for the 10+ seconds delay before re-connecting, can that period be shorter ?
