@ #6: An earlier Quantal live image (daily-live/20120510/) actually booted. I
had a different issue with pre-quantal live images, a bug which caused the live
image to freeze when looking for firmware for the wireless card when booting.
That bug was set to be fixed in 12.10 --- so I checked that Quantal pre-alpha
live image to see if the patch was included, and the image booted. Something
since May 10th has rendered it unbootable.
