Tested kernel Linux 3.4.1-030401 (sorry - I didn't see your link to
3.5-rc1 until after I downloaded 3.4.1). The issue is fixed with this
kernel. I rebooted with 3.2.0.24 and confirmed the issue is there with
that kernel.

This is good news for me - except that I cannot use the nvidia
proprietary driver with the 3.4 kernel (there is no nvidia option when
running the "Additional Drivers" app). Does this mean I have to wait for
12.10?
