Have since confirmed this bug on another machine. Unfortunately I am unable to remember the details and exact configuration but the installer required manual intervention to get grub installed properly, and then boot configuration editing to boot successfully. Windows partition doesn't boot at all. I guess this is minutely better than before (not having a choice), but not happy about lack of activity here as stated in bug 46520 (I know more info would help, but when there is so little response, what's the point?)
