The proposed fix, driver 295.49 does not work for my nvidia gtx 280 card. In fact it causes X to fail to launch altogether after some recent ubuntu 12.04 updates. The beta driver 302.07 allows X to start but compiz still always crashes for me and thus unity 3D will not work.
