Tryin to service/update an old PC for a neighbour (Athlon 1800+] <yawn> . Seemed to work fine on inital boot from '12.04 Alternate CD' dist update, but after running on-line updates it stalls after Greeter log- in.
If I choose 'Recovery mode' then 'resume normal boot' it comes up OKish (like now) but lacks video driver & at low res (should be 1440x900, but 1024x768 etc is all I am offered).
