Public bug reported:

(1) Ubuntu 12.04 final release (no problem in 11.10)
(2) Task: printing jpg or pdf files
(3) Applications used: Image Viewer, Document Viewer, Gthumb
(4) Problem printer settings: color / grayscale & duplex on / off
(5) Printer driver Ricoh Aficio MPC 2051 through network

Description:

Printer settings made in the above applications for color / grayscale &
duplex printing are over-ridden by the global printer system settings.
For example, if the global system settings is for one-sided printing and
the setting chosen in an application e.g. Document Viewer is for two-
sided printing, the output is one-sided.

To enable duplex printing, this has to be set in global system printing
settings. This is true also for color / grayscale settings. Other
settings, like 2 pages per side, can be applied in the application print
dialog.
