The problem of the install crashing is NOT invalid. It may be something odd with this one report but look here.... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1965802 There are dozens who are getting nowhere trying to install 12.04, (it seems in both Ubuntu & Xubuntu flavours) and getting the error message reported here.
I can run the Live version with no problems, the crash only happens when I try to install. Both from DVD or USB (and YES I've verified the md5).
