Public bug reported: Until ubuntu 11.10, when I closed the lid in lightdm the computer suspended.
In Ubuntu 12.04, this behavior stopped to work while at the login screen (lightdm). When logged in on Unity or Gnome, closing the lid suspends normally as expected. I think that this is a bug, since all configurations panels, and configurations files I found out, was saying that when closing the lid, the computer will suspend. I've changed from lightdm to gdm using dpkg-reconfigure gdm and with gdm when closing the lid the computer suspend normally as expected. But I really prefer lightdm, and I would like to make this work as worked in lightdm on Ubuntu 11.10. thanks!
