Fabio & Michael, Thanks for your replies. I'm far from an expert so all I can do is take a pic of the screen (attached) and maybe you guys can work out why, when I boot up, the purple screen comes up and freezes until I power down and then power straight up again to get an option list which, if I select 'last Ubuntu version', I can then get started, but if I select any 'recovery' options I get the attached screen which doesn't allow any input.
As it's really annoying I hope you can point me in the right direction to perhaps re-load Ubuntu to overcome this.
