Now that my bug (Bug #984874 ) has been declared the same as this one, I'll add my comment here: The bug occurred when running from a CD on my 8 year old Toshiba laptop, but now that I've installed the Beta 2, nothing has crashed or played up. In fact it beats the pants off every release since 9.04 for good behaviour - it runs better than 11.10 xubuntu and seems to equal it in performance (boot, start up of applications), except for shutdown, where now it always shuts down without freezing.
