Sincere apologies for wasting your time!

It seems it was operator malfunction all along. I don't understand how
it happened, but the touchpad was switched off. I'm certain i tried
turning it on earlier on in the testing process and it didn't work.
However, i obviously missed something.

The touchpad is now working in all versions of the kernel that i have
installed.
