Since updating the weekend, this issue has started happening on boot as well. It takes about 3 "REISUB" reboots to actually boot successfully. It happens after the boot options appear, and before the purple Ubuntu logo + loading dots appear. I looked at Xorg.0.log but it does not report any errors.
I have attached /var/log/syslog from this morning. I did notice these messages followed by a stack trace: Apr 17 07:56:09 jamesxps kernel: [ 44.483246] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#2 stuck for 22s! [plymouthd:276] It seems to be struggling loading plymouthd. I've done some searching and it seems fairly inconclusive. The only thing that popped up was using "nomodeset" as a boot option, but that was from 2010 and seems to be related to ATI graphics cards, which I don't have. ** Attachment added: "/var/log/syslog on boot when crashing" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/963933/+attachment/3082013/+files/syslog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/963933 Title: System freeze when hotplug 27" monitor in Ubuntu 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/963933/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
