Bug still present in Ubuntu 12.04 Launching with LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8 audacity does not solve it for me. Changing the language to English does not solve it.
Installing Audacity onto a system with the system-wide default language set to Hebrew, the problem occurs. If I install with the system-wide default language set to English, Audacity works, but on changing the system-wide default language to Hebrew the problem appears. As Yaakov Shoham wrote, the problem occurs whenever Ubuntu tries to make Audacity Right-to-Left.
