Hello Christopher, it seems that I somehow missed your message in march. Unfortunately the fact that Maverick has lost security support has lead me to upgrade to oneiric with the mentioned workaround on my main system. But I might find time to install Natty on an external drive to do the kernel bisection some time in the coming two weeks.
For now I'll attach the apport data from oneiric. ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I'm using Maverick on a day to day basis on this HP Presario CQ61 and I have also tested Natty via a USB-stick installation. Both have good wireless connection behavior. Yet when testing Oneiric via A USB-stick installation the wireless connection is has extreme latency issues. For example, using scp to copy the initrd via Natty or Maverick takes about 7 seconds on my network, where Oneiric quickly stalls at about 10% and takes minutes before reaching 11% after which I abort. Also access vie NFS stalls, surfing has long latencies as does any other network transfer. There's nothing suspicious [for me] the dmesg or syslog and ifconfig does not report dropped packages. WORKAROUND: Turning off the hardware encryption works around the issue for me: sudo -s echo echo "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" > /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf reboot ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: linux-firmware 1.60 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-13.22-generic 3.0.6 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-13-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Dec 2 09:20:55 2011 Dependencies: EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64 (20111012) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de_AT:de PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=de_AT.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-firmware UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 + Architecture: amd64 + ArecordDevices: + **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** + card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: ayers 2758 F.... pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'SB'/'HDA ATI SB at 0xf0300000 irq 16' + Mixer name : 'IDT 92HD75B2X5' + Components : 'HDA:111d7608,103c3652,00100202' + Controls : 13 + Simple ctrls : 8 + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'HDMI'/'HDA ATI HDMI at 0xf0210000 irq 45' + Mixer name : 'ATI R6xx HDMI' + Components : 'HDA:1002aa01,00aa0100,00100100' + Controls : 4 + Simple ctrls : 1 + Card1.Amixer.values: + Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0 + Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum + Playback channels: Mono + Mono: Playback [on] + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=0bdfa041-6f3a-4443-a3e2-e23a3735ec3f + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) + MachineType: Hewlett-Packard Presario CQ61 Notebook PC + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.0.0-19-generic root=/dev/mapper/vg--hostname-lv--ubuntu ro vga=795 quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-19.32-generic 3.0.27 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.0.0-19-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.0.0-19-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.60.1 + Tags: oneiric running-unity + Uname: Linux 3.0.0-19-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2012-04-13 (3 days ago) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout libvirtd lpadmin plugdev sambashare users wireshark + dmi.bios.date: 10/10/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.bios.version: F.07 + dmi.board.name: 3652 + dmi.board.vendor: Quanta + dmi.board.version: 42.14 + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Quanta + dmi.chassis.version: N/A + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvrF.07:bd10/10/2009:svnHewlett-Packard:pnPresarioCQ61NotebookPC:pvr0392100000210D10000020000:rvnQuanta:rn3652:rvr42.14:cvnQuanta:ct10:cvrN/A: + dmi.product.name: Presario CQ61 Notebook PC + dmi.product.version: 0392100000210D10000020000 + dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/899009 Title: extreme network latencies with ath9k on HP Presario CQ61 on oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/899009/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
