Christopher, I am not in a position to be able to further test this bug. I initially reported the problem over a year ago. It never received any official response and, based on feedback as recently as February of this year in the bug comments, the issue is not fixed. It should not come as a surprise that I gave up a long time ago and no longer use Ubuntu on that laptop.
I mean no disrespect. I know that the devs volunteer a lot of time working on Ubuntu. But a year is an absurd amount of time to wait for a fix to a show-stopping bug like this on a laptop, particularly considering the myriad of other operating systems available. And based on the comments in this bug, it seems this problem is endemic in other Linux variants as well, going back as far as 2008. Some other brave soul will have to step-in and confirm whether this remains an issue. Marc, as of Feb. 15th 2012, you were still experiencing the problem. Can you confirm that the problem still exists?
