My initial report was for Feisty. Since my report I haven't used the xemacs-gnome-nomule package (I used the xemacs-mule package which didn't have this problem). I just installed the gnome-nomule package and checked it in both my computers running Feisty, and everything seems to work. The opened file shows up as the active buffer.
