Public bug reported: I upgraded overnight to 12.04 beta, and once told about ndiswrapper- dkms, I installed it. However, there is a problem - when I boot into KDE, my network applet shows no interfaces, and iwconfig from the konsole does not either.
I had to sudo modprobe -r ndiswrapper, unplug my device (A Siemens Gigaset USB 108 Wifi adapter, 129B:160C, Atheros AR5523 Chipset), sudo modprobe ndiswrapper, then plug the device in, before the network applet and iwconfig picked up the existance of wlan0 and my device. Before doing this, I did confirm through sudo ndiswrapper -l that my device was being found, and was configured - the output of that command being: thor@Hunter96-Watchman90:~$ sudo ndiswrapper -l [sudo] password for thor: net5523 : driver installed device (129B:160C) present Since it was detecting that the device was there, and the appropriate driver was installed, I'm mystified as to how ndiswrapper missed the device as an interface, or if it wasn't ndiswrapper, what caused wlan0 not to activate. Any ideas welcomed.
