Steve Langasek - I have just tried to replicate in 12.04 beta and could not reproduce the issue any more. I had a mounted a SMB share using /etc/fstab which appeared to be successfully unmounted prior to shutdown (or at least, it didn't hang for a minute or so, it shut down immediately).
