This still happens in kubuntu 11.10, which I just dist upgraded today. (and kubuntu 10.something that I had before today)
It does not happen when I plug my USB 2.0 mouse in the USB 3.0 port. It does not happen when I plug in a small port-powered USB 3.0 hard disk into the USB 3.0 port (which I then tested at 70 MB/s). But it happens when I add a big external "Iomega Prestige Desktop Hard Drive" in. I get lots of general protection faults on various processes (first is usually "ata_id" process). And when switching tty consoles, it starts rapidly spewing messages like "[ 376.000000 ] sr 7:0:0:1: sense urb submission failure". And after enough processes crash, it is not possible to switch consoles, because the system panicked. $ uname -a Linux peter 3.0.0-17-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 8 20:45:39 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=oneiric DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 11.10" I plan to test it on a SuSE or Debian live CD to compare. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/757242 Title: Memory corruption when inserting usb 3 uas device To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/757242/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
