Hello Christopher I have just now installed the Precise beta2, and I can report that the problem is solved. The harddisk now works. The Iomega external HDD is a strange construction. It is delivered with a "virtual CD", containing a (useless) encryption program. This cd can be removed using an Iomega utility, but the HDD still did not work in the previous versions of Ubuntu, (it works with Windows). I have tried with another USB3 HDD which worked fine. Now, with the Precise version both HDDs work fine. Should I tag the bug as closed? or can you do that? Thank you for the interest. Regards Per Gjerlov PS BTW the Precise beta2 works perfectly for me as a production system. I will probably change over very soon.
