I think that we are closing in on the solution. I noticed that after running sudo sh -x /sbin/lrm-manager, that the volatile directory was full of modules. I tried to re-start X and it worked!!!
I then rebooted, same problem, no X. The volatile directory was empty as well. I then, from the command line ran sudo sh -x /sbin/lrm-manager, then startx and it worked!!! Now I just have the issue of not working with my PS2 mouse and not seeing my /dev/sdc hard drive (both of which work fine if I boot with the -15 kernel. I hope that these are clues that will help.
