That's very puzzling. It's good that it works, but I don't understand
the difference in behavior.

I'll think about it a little more, but right now I can't think of
anything else to test that will make a practical difference. It seems
like there ought to be a better way to fix this after suspend, something
that gets acpi_video0 working as well, but as of right now I don't have
any idea what that would be.
