Same issue here when moving ~250.000 or more (mostly small) files from USB (ext3) to USB (NTFS). Speed gradually slows down to just a few kB/sec, memory use gradually goes up to multiple gigabytes. Nautilus uses 99% CPU (180% when doing two copy/move tasks) and does not release memory when the move is finished.
I've attached a valgrind log of moving almost 6 million files (110GB), during which after about 67000 files the system became totally non- responsive due to swap hell, so I had to REISUB it. Memory use for the valgrind/nautilus project had grown to about 3GB at that point. ** Attachment added: "valgrind.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/491736/+attachment/2950984/+files/valgrind.log ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491736 Title: nautilus takes a huge amount of memory when copy-pasting files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/491736/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
