Same issue here when moving ~250.000 or more (mostly small) files from USB 
(ext3) to USB (NTFS).
Speed gradually slows down to  just a few kB/sec, memory use gradually goes up 
to multiple gigabytes.
Nautilus uses 99% CPU (180% when doing two copy/move tasks) and does not 
release memory when the move is finished.

I've attached a valgrind log of moving almost 6 million files (110GB),
during which after about 67000 files the system became totally non-
responsive due to swap hell, so I had to REISUB it. Memory use for the
valgrind/nautilus project had grown to about 3GB at that point.
